Squire Holiday Times - Volume V

Following is our Christmas letter that we sent out via email.  If you didn't get it in your inbox, here it is in its full glory (forgive the random boxes and whatnot, the html code from the email isn't translating correctly...):

Dear Friends and Family,
Merry Christmas, everybody! All I want for Christmas is you... Now with the awkward stuff out of the way, we pray that this email finds you healthy and happy. Thanks to everyone for your Christmas greetings thus far and we look forward to any replies this email may bring (hint, hint!).

This year has been a great one for the Squire Family. We've had a lot of fun as we have continued to grow older and closer together. This year we spent time in Southern Utah, Texas (three times for Alison, Lyla and me) and central Florida, where the kids were in heaven at Disney World and Alison and I especially liked the Wizarding World of Harry Potter, a Rays game and a couple of visits to the beach.

We are all looking forward to Christmas and have enjoyed seeing family and friends that we don't see often enough. Once again we wish all ya'll a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Lyla
Lyla is the joy of the family. She is loved and cherished by her parents and possibly a little too much by her sisters. With her bright red hair and stunning blue eyes she commands a lot of attention. Lyla is now about 14 1/2 months old. She has been crawling for a couple of months, she can stand on her own, but she hasn't shown much interest in walking yet. She is very curious and loves her mommy, daddy and sisters.

Kate
Our dear Kate is probably the girl with the strongest personality. She is very particular and likes to have things done her way. She idolizes her big sister Ada and is proud to wear her hand-me-downs and join in any activity that Ada will let her. Kate is in her second year of preschool and continues to learn in leaps and bounds. While she can get angry on a dime, she also gives the best snuggles and has a great sense of humor. She misses Ada while she is at school, and never tires of play-acting ponies, Jake and the Neverland Pirates or any number of other characters with Ada.

Ada
Ada is halfway through first grade and has now been in the French Immersion program for a year and a half. She spends half of her school day in English and the other half speaking only French. She has always amazed me with her abilities to learn new things and French has been no exception. She loves her friends and misses them when she is not at school. Ada has always been our little helper and the most willing to clean up and help out around the house. She still loves to spend her days coloring and working on her own little craft projects. She surprises us nearly every day with her memory and creativity. She is everything we want our oldest child to be.

Alison
Alison's battle this year involved surviving on little sleep. Between Lyla and Kate (who loved to join us in bed throughout the year), sleep has been a precious commodity. She has also been enjoying her new role as a soccer mom, shuttling both Ada and Kate to their practices and games in their first season of soccer. Alison is very proud of the three birthday parties in three months that she prepared and hosted for each of the girls. It was a ton of work but they each enjoyed their circus (Kate), French (Ada) and apple (Lyla) parties. She is always a good sport for taking the girls on any of the trips that Tyler dreams up. It's a lot of work to travel with young kids. She loves and looks forward to her monthly book club gatherings. She still posts every once in a while, so feel free to check out her blog,
Al's Audibles.

Tyler
Tyler is still working for Spectrum Engineers as an associate electrical engineer. He became licensed as a PE (Professional Engineer) earlier this year, which allows him to stamp and sign his own drawings. He still loves his job, even though the hours can be long and are generally unpredictable (blame the architects for not coordinating their deadlines). In May Tyler bought his dream car, a Chevrolet Volt, but as Alison says "At least his dream car is a Chevy." He is proud that he has only filled up with gas 7 times, and the last fillup was in October - more than 1,500 miles ago. He loves taking any of his girls that are willing to the Utah basketball games, but the football games are enjoyed on his own in the MUSS - not an appropriate place for children. He still keeps a blog (but only posts around once a month if you're lucky),
Lurp's Lounge, and loves reading and posting reviews of the books he's read on his booklist blog.
