Kauai - Day 6

Day 6 - Plantation Tubing - January 16, 2018

Today our adventure was to go tubing through old sugar plantation canals.  We loved it.

Yep, this is a photo that will show up at her wedding.

We fly home tonight, so we had to get all checked out of our hotel room.  We spent some free time in the hotel lobby playing kindles.

We booked this tour last minute and none of the available times had space for all of us, so we split up into two groups.  First to go was Alison and Kate, then me, Ada & Lyla.

We bought the photos from the tour group so we would have something to show for our fun.

Alison must not like the smell.

In general, the tubing was pretty tame. The canals are pretty flat and there were a few tunnels. There are a few spots where you go down a short incline.

Kauai has lots of waterfalls. When it rains so much in the mountains, the rain makes it down to the valleys eventually.

One last important stop before heading to the airport. Shaved ice.

Back to our favorite with the fresh fruit and syrup.  Give Wailua Shave Ice Kauai a try next time you're in Kauai!

Next up is our annual golf trip to San Diego!

Kauai - Day 5

Day 5 - Kauai North Shore - January 15, 2018

Today we drove the Kuhio Highway to the north shore of the island.

We stopped by the Maniniholo Dry Cave.

Sampled some fresh coconut milk (not our favorite!).

We stopped for a look at Ke'e Beach.  No swimming here as the beach had very dangerous conditions.

I'm not sure what we're doing here...

We were here to hike on the Kalalau Trail which takes you to an overlook of the Napali Coast.

The trail was beautiful. A tropical paradise.

Of course.

Views of the Napali Coast. If we didn't have the kids with us, we would have loved to have hiked further along the trail.

A funny looking spider.

After the hike, we were rewarded with beach time.

This is Hanalei Beach.  It was great. The waves weren't too huge and we were all able to have fun.

I took the drone out for a spin for some views of the beach.

Can you see us?

And of course we finished the day off with shaved ice. This is from Jojo's Shave Ice in Hanalei.

Tomorrow we go tubing in the plantation canals!
