Squiceland Day 10 - Lille to London

Day 10 - Lille to London - April 10, 2017

Another day of driving and trains.

The girls just loved Lyndee.  She was the team teacher for their kindergarten teacher after she moved to another school.

The Mowers and the Squires.

Once again we drove our car onto the train to be transported from France to England.

We were late to our scheduled departure (we slept in).  If we had had more time, then we would have taken a short jaunt to Belgium.  There were a few places where the highway was only a couple of miles from the Belgian border.

In a car on a train deep underground and underwater.

Once we arrived back in the UK we drove a little ways up the coast to see the white cliffs of Dover.

Chalky souvenirs.

We went on a short hike along the cliffs.  Once again, this was a place that I have dreamed of visiting for ages, so it was awesome to be here.

We had a jumping competition.

We found some little caves.

After our little hike we grabbed a bite to eat and then made our way to Dover Castle.

Dover Castle is the largest castle in England and has played a major role throughout history in defending England, including during WWII.

We were able to wander all throughout the castle grounds and into the dungeons and walls.

Inside the castle.

Couldn't the thrones at least be comfortable?  If I were king, my throne would have been a La-Z-Boy.

On the rampart.

The Union Jack was waving proudly for us.

From Dover we drove to London, stopping at a rest stop on the way for dinner.  We had a small apartment near West Kensington and aside from a minor snafu getting into the place everything worked our wonderfully.

We arrived at the airbnb and used the code on the lockbox to get the keys, but the box was empty.  There was a second lockbox for the cleaners, but we didn't have the code for that one and it took about an hour of trying to connect and international call, text and whatsapp message to the landlord.  Finally we got through and got the code to the 2nd box to get in.

My plan was to return the rental car to Heathrow and then take the tube back to the apartment, but there was cheap on-street parking, so we kept the car until our flight home.

Tomorrow we explore London!
