Pictures of Kate!!!

Just like promised, here are a few pictures of the adorable little baby Kate. To be honest, all newborn babies look more or less the same to me - but this one is definitely a keeper. Thanks everybody for your kind comments. Nothing like a new baby to bring out the lurkers! :)

Ada has really been having fun with baby Kate. She can't wait to take her home and has been so sweet to her. We were a little afraid of how she would react but she has just been wonderful. She's going to be a fantastic older sister.

She's here! I can't upload any pictures yet, but I will asap. Mother and baby are doing well and relaxing in the room. Here's the vitals:

Born: 7:37 AM - July 10, 2008
Weight: 6 lbs 13.5 oz.
Length: 20.5 inches

From what people are saying she looks a lot like Ada. I can't honestly say because all babies look about the same to me (except Kate's little nose is squashed flat). She hasn't cried one bit, but her color is good and she's been eating like a queen. Now it's my turn to go get some breakfast.

More Snow?!

A few tidbits from the last week:

• The few days before today were just beautiful. Today it snowed heavily from 2:00-8:00 and driving home from work on the interstate my undercarriage was dragging along the snow in the middle of the lane. Another good reason for me to try and lose a few pounds. We've had at least 3 storms dropping 8-12" of snow and many more dropping fewer inches.
  
• I've had 3 job interviews this week.
  
• I'm excited to have another girl (if you didn't read that on Al's blog, we found out Monday that we are having a girl). Hopefully Ada and Baby Who Shall Not Yet Be Named will enjoy playing with each other.
  
• I've had a miserable cold the last few days. I think that I have a pretty high pain threshold (I stayed at school all day after I broke my arm in 4th grade in 1st recess) but I'm a huge wuss, pansy, wimp, etc. when it comes to body aches and chest/gut pain.
• I often wonder if Ada isn't a prodigy.
  
• I saw this article the other day about the coldest places in the world. I lived in Russia (and it was cold) but I was in a comparatively warm part of Russia. Send this article to anybody complaining of the cold (unless they live in Yakutsk).
  
• I drive through 23 lights going to work and 24 lights coming home. If they're not timed very well it can take a long time...
• We went to dinner yesterday at Romano's Macaroni Grill for Valentine's Day. They've got good bread.

A Slew of Funny or Interesting Videos

It's been a crazy busy week. Nonetheless, I always have time to check out an interesting video or two. You can see I also added the "World AIDS Day' Ribbon to the top of this post. I've got to be honest, I mainly added it becasue it's red and with my green blog background it makes the whole thing look very Christmassy, right? This first video is an incredible one from National Geographic about killer whales hunting seal pups. Seal volleyball anyone? Unfortunately, you have to visit their site to watch - found here.

This next video is one of Alison and my favorites. It's of a baby laughing and we find it simply hysterical and cute as could be. We've got Ada laughing a couple of times - but never quite so much as the baby in this video.

She's Here!

Holy smokes, Can you believe it, Ada is finally here. She was born early Saturday morning (12:55 AM) at LDS Hospital. She weighed 7 lbs 8 oz and was 20 inches long. As you will see from the following pictures, she is just adorable.

On Friday July 21st Alison had planned to go into work for her last day before going on maternity leave. I had already put in my 40 hours so I had the day off. Early Friday morning, Alison began having painful contractions every 8-10 minutes. Because of this she decided to stay home from work. She did have a doctors appointment that morning but we thought we may even be in the hospital by then. When we finally got up for the day, Alison's contractions virtually stopped. The doctors visit went well. Alison was dilated to a 3 and 80% effaced. The doctor told us that the baby could come at any time.

At around noon, Alison started contracting again and this time they weren't gong to stop. By 2:00 we knew that we were going to be going to the hospital because the contractions were painful and between 3-6 minutes apart. We decided to kill some time by going out to eat at Su Casa. After that, we went up to the hospital. We got there around 4:00 and within the hour, Alison already had her epidural.

The pushing started just after midnight and after 45 minutes of pushing sweet little Ada was born. When she was born they quickly threw her up onto Alison's tummy. Ada cried for about 30 seconds and then just looked around with the prettiest big blue eyes. She was so calm. Everything just went as well as we could have hoped for.

The rest of the stay in the hospital was great. We both found it very relaxing and enjoyable to have people waiting on us and helping us out with everything. Nonetheless, it is sure exciting to be home with our brand new baby.

It's A Girl!!!

Well, It's official. Alison and I are having a girl! We found out on Tuesday morning at Alison's 16 week ultrasound (an extra one for a study that she is participating in). Granted, unless you're a doctor, sonographer, or you have experience deciphering the ultrasound photos below, they may not mean much. I still think she's pretty cute :). Check out how different she looks from our first ultrasound.
