Kauai - Day 2

Day 2 - Waimea Canyon - January 12, 2018

Today we woke up before the sun (we're still on Utah time), so we made our way down to the beach to watch the sunrise.

Sunrise over the water.

A short game of tag.

Followed by a morning swim in the hotel pool.

Back to the beach to play in the sand.

The beach is protected by a rock wall, so not really ideal for boogie boarding, but a great place to swim with little kids.

In the afternoon, we drove about an hour to Waimea Canyon State Park.  It was beautiful and Kauai is just about the perfect size island to be able to drive wherever you want without it being too far.

Pretty views and waterfalls.

This was our rental car van. We found our twin van in the parking lot at the Kalalau Lookout. The license plates of these two vans were only 1 digit off.

We went on a short hike to see if we could get a good look at the Napali Coast. As is typical, it was mostly fogged in.

So beautiful.

The trail was a little treacherous.

Ahoy. One of the wettest spots on earth.

We stopped at some more viewpoints on our way down the mountain.

Time for shaved ice.  Today's treat was from Jojo's Shave Ice in Waimea.

And now we were on the right side of the island to watch the sunset over the water.

Tomorrow we head to the south side of the island to Poipu Beach.
