Thailand & Vietnam - Day 10

Day 10 - Bangkok Day 1 - September 3, 2017

We arrived at our hotel, the 5-star Anantara Siam Bangkok Hotel.  It was really nice, but not super expensive (which is typical for SE Asia).

I got up early the following morning and went looking for breakfast.  I walked past the Erawan Shrine on a busy street corner. Lots of people lighting incense.

After breakfast and getting ready, we finally made it to the Chatuchak weekend market. This is a huge market with more than 15,000 stalls and 200,000 visitors every weekend!

Squirrels and chipmunks.  Pictures for a $0.60 tip.

Alison refuses to take photos with me.

It's hard to capture the enormity of this market. We had fun just wandering through the many aisles trying to get lost.

Lots of little places to get feet and leg massages.  Lyla was not sure what to think of this.

Alison and I enjoyed it.

Crepes for lunch for the girls.

Here is a map of the market. Everybody pretty much spoke English and most signs were in English.

Chicken and pork satay.  I find myself craving these every once in a while.  They were so good.

Alison had mango sticky rice.

We found the area of the market selling animals.

Hermit crabs.

Snacks.

We rode the train back to our hotel.  This little tuk tuk was in the shopping center adjacent.

They had the red carpet all rolled out for a bunch of dignitaries that were arriving and would stay at our hotel. We didn't receive quite the same welcome.

This is pretty much the only word in Thai that I can read.

We liked this Ronald McDonald.

We walked through a couple of malls this evening. Thailand has a handful of the largest shopping malls in the world and many of them are right next to each other.  They were amazing.

We took a tuk tuk ride back to our hotel.  Probably not the safest form of transportation, but we had to do it once.

Somehow all 5 of us fit in the back of this thing.

Tomorrow, we visit the palace and temples here in Bangkok!
