We got up this morning at 5AM to make our way to the floating markets.
The sunrise was incredible. This is one of my favorite pictures. Unedited and sooo beautiful.
It was gone within a few minutes though.
Some exercise gear on the path near the river while we waited for our boat to arrive.
I'm so glad Lyla could get her arm workout in today.
We hopped on our boat and headed down the river. I think we went for around 20-30 minutes until we arrived at the floating market.
Family selfie.
It was only 6:20AM, but everything was bustling as if it were much later.
Ada, Kate and our tour guide Hung.
Family photo.
After the market we started heading back to town, but our boat driver took us on the more scenic route, rather than down the main river.
You can hardly tell, but people live all along the river. No roads to their homes, just the river.
Just like yesterday's boat trip, there were areas where I wasn't sure we were on a navigable path.
Incredibly, even here, we heard speakers blasting communist propaganda. The government plays propaganda throughout the day. Our guide wouldn't tell us what they said, just chatter.
A foot bridge. How would you like your kids to walk to school over that bridge?
Our next visit was to the Costco of floating markets. The boats in this market sell items in bulk, which are then re-sold at the smaller floating and non-floating markets.
The watermelon store. Note the pole on the right side of the photo with a watermelon hanging down. That's how each boat advertises what they are selling.
More advertising poles.
We stopped at a pineapple boat and got off and climbed on top to get a better view.
Fresh pineapple.
Family photo.
Family photo +1. (not at our request...)
Pineapple for breakfast.
The bowels of the ship were loaded with pineapple.
We went back to our hotel to gather our stuff. I showed Kate the pool, she was sad that we didn't have time to swim.
4. No splitting in the pool.
We started driving back towards Ho Chi Minh City. We took some back roads (not that there are highways) and we came across tons of these bridges. They were brought here by the US during the Vietnam war and span the thousands of streams and small rivers.
We stopped by and visited this little temple. It's for a religion that sort of embraces all other religions and people. It was certainly unique.
Next stop was lunch at Nhà hàng Sinh thái Bàu Sen in the middle of a pond of water lilies.
The food was ok. Not our best Vietnamese meal, even though it was fairly fancy and we had the whole restaurant to ourselves.
Doesn't that look appetizing?
At least Ada could suck on the beak.
A huge jackfruit.
One last picture. After lunch we continued our drive back to Ho Chi Minh. We just loved our tour. If you're ever looking for a tour group in Vitnam hit us up and we'll put you in contact.
Sleepyheads.
Tomorrow we fly onto Thailand.
