Day 8 - Phi Phi Islands - September 1, 2017
We took a speedboat to the Phi Phi Islands. It was about a 45 minute trip and gorgeous.
Waiting to board the boat.
On the boat. Check out all of the jeweled bellylaces (like necklaces, but for bellies?) on the lady next to Ada.
Our first stop was at Maya Bay.
Look at this place. I must have been a little tipsy from the boat ride. Ignore the sloping horizon.
I liked the outdoor facilities.
The island had a narrow isthmus that you could walk across to the other side. This was the view from the opposite side from the beach.
Watch out for coconuts falling on your head.
A wee little shrine.
Looking for fish.
The dark skies in the distance were a bad sign.
This was Pileh Lagoon on another area of the island.
The water color was incredible.
Next stop was monkey beach.
The monkeys were so curious. They thought we had food, so they would come check us out. Sadly, they all left disappointed.
Lots of garbage all around unfortunately. The monkeys were thieves.
After monkey beach we went to a reef to snorkel, but we had to cut it short because the wind and rain had started to pick up.
The rains were torrential and lasted for a couple of hours. We had lunch at a hotel on the island. Luckily it was under a big tent.
We had to leave on the boat before the rains had let up. We were getting pelted and drenched and freezing a bit, but that's what makes it an adventure.
Amazingly, a few minutes before we arrived at our last stop the rains stopped and we were able to enjoy the beach.
Poor Lyla. All through this trip people would grab her and want to take pictures with her. These ladies got their hands on both Lyla and Ada and just picked them up without any second thoughts. Kate saw what was happening and got away, but Lyla and Ada suffered through.
A lady taking a photo of Kate. They wouldn't even try to be sneaky.
Time for sand castles.
Some fun with the gopro. There were tons of fish.
Far too soon it was time to head back. Even with the rain it was an incredible day.
I'm a big fan of Thailand sunsets. I think I need to go back and see some more.
Never enough swimming for these three. They had to have some time in our private rooftop pool when we got back.
You should have heard the screaming when this little guy made an appearance on the window curtains. He seemed friendly enough, but he caused quite a ruckus!
Tomorrow we visit the waterpark!
