Amsterdam - Day 4

 Day 4 - Monschau & The Rhine Valley - April 1, 2018

Easter Sunday!  We spent the morning exploring Monschau and the afternoon searching for castles.

This was our hotel in Monschau.  It was built in the 1780's, just a few years after the American Revolution.

Monschau did not disappoint.  It's a small town, but it was just beautiful.

On the left in the photo above is the church.  The bells were ringing, calling in to the Easter Sunday service.

Name that hymn!?

The city square.

After church breakfast was priority nummer eins.

The Roer River.

The town was decorated for Easter, mainly with eggs hanging from trees around town.

The Monschau Castle up on the hill.

One funny thing was that there were a number of stores that had rubber duckies.  Lots and lots of rubber duckies.  We should have bought a few.

I think this was a fancy hotel.

Obligatory 2018 Family Easter Photo.

After exploring Monschau, it was time to go searching for other castles along the Rhine River Valley.

The next few castles are ones that we just drove by on our way to Schloss Drachenburg. They're pretty much everywhere!

Schloss Drachenburg.  We paid for a tour of this castle, and the girls were rewarded with an Easter egg hunt.

See the polar bear skin rug?

gold stags.

More castles along the drive.

Our next stop was at Burg Eltz.

One of my favorites.

It was a miracle, but when we returned to our hotel, the Easter bunny had made a visit!

Tomorrow we visit Luxembourg on our way to Ghent in Belgium.
