Peru - Day 4

Day 4 - Paracas & La Huacachina - June 5, 2018

Our bus trip continued, but first we had a boat ride out in the Islas Ballestas National Wildlife Reserve.

We had to be to the port early to catch our boat tour.

Some of the fishing boats were already returning with their catch.

Here we go, leaving Paracas.

Lots of birds (and lots of photos. Be forewarned).

The Candelabro, an ancient geoglyph possibly dating back to 200BC. Similar to the more famous Nazca Lines found further down the coast of Peru.

A better view of the Candelabro.

Boaters.

We arrived at the Islas Ballestas and the birds began to show themselves.

Sea lion.

Penguins!

Spot the crabs.

The boat took us back to town where we boarded our bus and made our way to a viewpoint of the Pacific coastline.

It was a little too foggy to see clearly.

The whole crew.

Back to the bus and onto our next stop.

We headed to the town of Ica, where the Huacachina oasis is located nearby. This was our first view of the sand dunes.

This was the type of place that you see on Instagram and wonder whether or not it was real and how difficult it would be to get there.  It was a beautiful oasis surrounded by sand dunes and we were not disappointed.

We went on a dune buggy ride and it was intense.  The buggy had 3 rows of 5 and we were blessed with a wild driver that had us questioning our life choices.

We stopped a few times to play in the sand.

We also stopped to snowboard on the dunes.

Phew!  That was a lot of photos!

Tomorrow we fly to Cuzco to continue the adventure.

I never would have guessed that those dune pictures were in Peru. Very cool!
