Day 7 - Cuzco to Puerto Maldonado - June 8, 2018
Today was another travel day, but a short one. We flew from Cuzco to the Peruvian Amazon. Our destination was Puerto Maldonado, a city on the Rio Madre de Dios and about 40 miles from the border with Bolivia.
A view of the river and a tributary.
This was our little jet. 24 rows, 6 seats across.
I tend to book reservations under Sea Bass. That was we can travel under the radar and avoid the inevitable paparazzi.
The Intercontinental Bridge. This provides a trade path with Brazil and is known as a major drug, animal and wood smuggling corridor.
Cool hair. Felt cute. Might delete later.
We had booked a stay at the amazing Corto Maltes Amazonia. It was a few miles downriver, so we had to take a boat to the resort.
We've arrived.
First order of business, relax in the hammocks.
Friendly agoutis.
Their noses look a little piggish.
Saying hi to the friend toucan.
Here is our private lodging.
Can anybody figure out why Alison is wearing her coat in the tropics?
A couple of resident macaws.
Lovely birds.
We went on a nighttime safari boat excursion. We saw a bunch of caiman, including an elusive black caiman, the largest living rodent - a couple of nocturnal capybaras.
Tomorrow we hike to Lake Sandoval and continue exploring the Amazon.
